A Tribute to My Good Dear Friend

With a heavy heart I write to you all about the passing of my best friend Truman.  It has been a difficult time for Tank and I, and we appreciate all of the support from friends, family, and my playgroup at camp.

I can not do Truman’s life justice with a blog post, but I will do my best to say what he meant to me.  For most of this Bug’s life Truman has been a second brother to me – and to Tank – and led through example to help me mature into the Bug I am today.  Here are just a few words, memories, and thoughts that I want to share.

Truman provided reason when I was being irrational.  One time when the neighbor kids opened the gate to the outside, I thought it was an opening for freedom.  It wasn’t.  Truman stayed in the yard and close to his brother Lex, to protect him, and to guard the pack.   He showed me that you never stray from the pack and always stand with your brother(s).

stay tall & true. constant vigilance.

Family is everything. Two legs or four, blood or not blood;  you love those that take care of you, and take care of those that you love.

brotherhood & love.

Love from T monster

smooches.

at his wedding to Jola.

TruTru was so wise for having so few years under his collar, and believed above all in peace and forgiveness.  He taught me to kiss instead of bite, to share instead of steal, to forgive instead of fight, and that regardless of any differences we might have in size or opinion, we always protect and take care of each other.

love you big buddy.

He was my biggest buddy and guardian in life, and will always be that voice in my head helping me to be my best self.  He was the Scooby to my Scrappy  Doo and I will never forget him.  My heart is with Truman’s parents and his blood brother Lex who fulfilled his life, and he loved with all his heart.  Thank you big buddy for being my friend.  May you rest peacefully now.

Rest Peacefully Truman. You were a great man.

ps. I’m sorry I stole borrowed your squeaky toy.  It was, uh, a packing oversight.  I will do my best to keep it safe from Tank’s razor sharp teeth as long as I live.  I promise that.

Breaking News: Lex Turned 7

Dudes,

I got so caught up in telling everyone about Tank’s new readers that I completely forgot to give a big BIRTHDAY shout out to my good buddy Lex who lives in Charlotte.  Lex is Truman’s brother, and the best brother a dog could have.  I guess that makes him Tank and my cousin officially, but we’re so much more like siblings I can’t even tell you.

this just screams ‘brothers’

he LOVES wet willies

I mean seriously, if we weren’t related, we’d be in love.

When we’re all together I can’t even tell you what kind of trouble we get into.  We just have a few juice boxes and suddenly Tank’s in the pool, I’m roasting ‘shmallows and Lex is building contraptions out of the patio furniture.  I don’t even know where Truman gets to, but to be honest he mostly just watches out for the rest of us to make sure we don’t get called in to the pokey (or the house).

Tank and I were super bummed to miss his Bday, but we’ve got big plans for the celebration the next time we see him.  I don’t want to spoil it but it involves a yoyo, a tennis ball, and some guerilla glue.  Seriously, you don’t even know how awesome it’s going to be.  Don’t tell our moms.

If you would, please pour out some of your water bowl in honor of my buddy Lex and his 7th Birthday!!

Stay cool my babies,

xxBug

Week update: The Carolinas, a dog wedding & hating on civil rights.

Dudes,

Big week here.  Tank and I took our last road trip of the summer with the moms and visited our birth place: Charlotte, NC.    The trip was great but I’ve got to get back on track with my training.  Don’t even talk to me about my diet – it went right out the window on day 1 and I can barely see my back toes.

This trip we stayed with my two best friends:  Lex and Truman.

Lex & I catching up.

TRUMAN! the man.

On Tuesday morning Tank and I went to our first dog wedding.  Truman and his sister Jola got married – Lex officiated.

they don’t look too excited to me. prolly just nerves.

I guess in North Carolina you can marry your relatives, just as long as you’re not both boys or both girls.  I think it’s crazy, because if Tank wanted to marry Truman that would be like the best days of my life.

It was an emotional morning.

After the ceremony we all had busy days but joined back together later that night for a big celebratory reception.  Uncle Bill  got wild with the blender and shit started to get crazy.  The rest of the night was a blur.

It always smells like a good idea in the beginning.

The next morning was rough, but I pulled myself out of bed early because it was Lex’s first day of school.  He’s in 1st grade – I can’t believe it.

it’s a miracle my eyes were even open.

Lex came up to make sure Tall mommy and I were awake and fed me my breakfast.  I was still feeling a little queasy, but it did help.

All in all it was a great week.  I’ll be back soon because I’m going to overnight camp with my agility trainer, Alan.  He’s going to help me up my cardio base and perfect my form.  I can’t wait.

It was a long ride back to Virginia,  but we made it.

are we there yet?

We’re finally all settled into the new house and let me tell you, it’s going to be great to sleep in my own bed tonight.

Stay cool my babies,

xx Bug
