The Monotony of At Home Living

Dudes, hi.  It’s me, Bug.

I just got back from a week in Charlotte – which was fine – but I missed a whole week of camp.  A whole damn week of camp.

I remember last monday like it was yesterday, only it was last week instead.  I loaded in the car like I always do on Mondays, but instead of  arriving at camp 10 minutes later, Tank and I were held captive in the car for hours.  Multiple hours.  It was so painful.

Once we got there I was so distracted by all of the change and commotion that I nearly forgot how devastated I had decided to be about missing camp.  I barely had time to use the outdoor facilities before Tank was in the pool.  So typical.

He’s so ridiculous.  He spent most of his waking hours sunning himself, swimming, and drinking by the pool.

I was so angry that I was robbed of this week at camp that I spent most of it on the couch, napping.  It was like I traded lives with Tank.  Nobody seemed to care that it was Toby and my anniversary.  I mean seriously, where is the compassion people?

We finally came home on Sunday, after another torturously long car ride, and I finally made my grand return to camp on Monday.

Now, this is not one of those stories where the main character experiences one challenging situation and then it’s all home free and sunny days.   This is a story of struggle – of my struggle.

Monday I made it back to camp, and let me tell you, it was glorious.  I played, I sunned, I generally socialized with any and all other living beings.  It was like being at a 5 star resort, and then suddenly, it was time to go.

I woke up this morning to the worst realization of all – it’s Tuesday.  A mother-sniffing work from home day where I don’t get to go to camp.  It’s my worst day of the week.

After my morning coffee (or the coffee of whoever left theirs on the table) I was ready to go.  I wanted to do something, I wanted adventure! Instead, I got to watch the news with Tank on the couch.  Thrilling.

By lunch I was considering going on the lam.  Someone thought it was an ingenious idea to work outside to multi-task and get to enjoy the day.  Well guess what, ‘someone’ was not full of great ideas today.  It was 90 degrees.  I live in a fur coat.  I was not amused.

It was like torture.  Seriously.  If someone told me I had to be a stay at home Bug, well I’d be packing my napsack and hitting the road before you could say treat.  You want to waste your day sitting around and ‘working?’ Well, I ain’t got time for that.

Thankfully tomorrow is another camp day so you don’t need to worry.  As long as I get dropped off by 9am no one will have to get hurt.  I’m campaigning for a camp bus for next year – I swear it’s the only way I’ll get there on time.

Happy Birthday to my Brother Frank (aka Tank)

Dudes,

I would like everyone to wish my big brother Tank a happy 7th birthday.  ( I call him Frank, but only I’m allowed to call him that. Long story.)

You are a 12 pounds of conviction, and an inspiration to me as your second in command.   You taught me how to be constantly vigilant, and to eat slow for better digestion.  Your constant napping and conservation of energy has kept you looking as youthful as ever.  I love you, Frank.

Santa is coming. And Soon.

Dudes.

Santa’s coming! Seriously, we’re less than three days away from his arrival and I’m freaking out.  It’s my first Christmas and I am committed to staying up to see Santa and his reindeer.  I’m not sure what his plan is since I don’t have a chimney, but it’s freakin’ Santa so I’m sure he’ll figure it out.

I sleep in direct eyesight of the tree so it’s pretty much a sure thing.  I’m going to leave some of my cookies out – they’re pretty tasty if you ask me. I’ve been a little naughty this year so it’s gonna take some bells and whistles to rebound onto the nice list.

In the spirit of giving Tank and I have been collecting donations for local homeless shelters and other four legged friends.  We’ve been getting some sweet bed, blanket and food donations from our buddies at Pure Barre to support the food and blanket drive we’re having at camp.

these are some sweet colors!

Tank brought the first load over when he picked me up from camp yesterday.  He’s been really getting into the holiday spirit so he wore his full holiday uniform.

Everyone loves it when Tank comes to get me so we got a few extra Christmas cookies before we went home.

christmas cookies!

I LOVE christmas cookies!

Tank was so excited he lost his hat for a minute, but I got it secured back on before we ventured out into the cold.  I also un-popped his collar because lets be real, it’s just not cute.

I’m off from camp until Monday and am going to be heading in to spread a little more cheer and drop off the last load of stuff right before Christmas.  I have a ton of things on my to-do list this weekend and am not sure how I’m going to get ready in time, but I’ve fueled up and am probably going to just pull an all-nighter.

Thankfully there are Christmas movies almost 24-7 on the movie channels so I’m going to just get in the zone.

Good luck with all of your holiday prep, and stay away from the malls.  They’re cray.

Tank’s New Owner: Billy-Bob.

Dudes,

I finally found a new forever home for Tank.  Meet Billy-Bob.

Tank & Bill.

all smiles.

I actually put Tank up for sale last week but didn’t post my last entry until I knew it was a sure deal.

Just kidding, he’s staying.  The plan was totally a GO until the email offers started rolling in and the jig was up.  Tall mommy did NOT think it was funny and put the kibosh on the whole plan.  She doesn’t let me post things on the internet, and claims it’s illegal to sell your brother on there.  Who knew.

The dude in the picture is actually my Uncle Billy.  Billy and Tank are pretty tight bros, and picture is just a random from happy hour.  We were just messing around – they’re such jokers.  Anyway, looks like Tank is staying, and we’re just going to have to find a good spin on it for my campaign.  Peaches has some ideas so hopefully we’re good there.

Tank and I are back in the Carolinas again for some business just chilling with Lex and Billy for a few days.  Things aren’t the same without Truman here, but we’re working through it.

Tank Went to Prison.

Dudes,

It happened.  Tank was sent to prison.

I knew it was only a matter of time before this happened.  He has been playing at the edge of the law lately, and this time he got caught.  Discrimination was definitely not on his side.

I don’t know what his sentence is going to be, but I doubt it will be lenient.   They kept him in the pokey for like 30 whole minutes.  That’s serious business around these parts.

Listen, I love Tank just as much as the next guy.  He’s my brother.  But I can’t have a felon living in my house, I just can’t.  It’s not good for my public image.

I consulted my campaign manager Peaches, and we agreed, it is time.  Tank is for sale.

He is listed on craigslist for 1 million dollars.  There is a mandatory home visit and I will be touring the homes personally to determine if the accommodations are suitable for Big T.  I don’t have time for games make sure you provide all of your information in your response.  Background and credit checks will be required,  and the payment option is CASH ONLY.  No payment plans, that’s a fools game.   See his ad below and contact me directly with any questions.  Also, don’t tell my mom, what she doesn’t know won’t hurt her.

Camp, CrossFit + Tank’s Glass Eye Fund

Dudes.

How’s it hangin’?  It has been such a busy week for me with camp, the election, and CrossFit that I feel like it was just Sunday, but it’s not.  It’s Thursday dudes.

Monday night after camp I went over to Solidarity CrossFit to practice some elements and give out a few coaching pointers.

you gotta lay back into your swing here

If there’s one thing I’m a stickler for it’s proper form, and the erg is a place where most inexperienced rowers struggle.  I mean, look at me, I’m no giant, but I sure can drop those meters like a boss.  I think everyone appreciated that I took the time to help make some technical tweaks, and I sure did love finally seeing the new facility.

observing form from a higher vantage point

I was exhausted by minute 20 – I mean listen, it had been a long day at camp – so I checked out before the WOD was over, but I think everyone really did benefit from my insight and experience.  I’m working on tweaking my instructional video on box jumps.  I’m at 24″ and can do 20 in a row without stopping, but my goal is 50.  I’m thinking I’ll have it down by January.

i got lots of thank you love before I left

Tuesday I took off from camp because it was the election and I was glued to the news all day analyzing the polls and watching the lines.  The fact that I can’t vote is just so upsetting I can’t even tell you.  Tank and I had some buddies over to watch the results come in, and we all made it into the double digits but I totally faded before any of the speeches.

tank being way emo with uncle david

I’m just waiting for someone to come to the plate and talk seriously about water bowl sanitation issues.  I mean, this is getting ridiculous.  All of us drinking out of the same contaminated water, and the big dogs with their big tongues draining the supply before us littles get in to the play yard? It’s totally unjust!  I need to hear how these jokers are planning on regulating that, and all the aggressive sniffing that happens in parks and public settings.  Did I say you could put your snout there? No. I didn’t.  And that’s assault, brotha.  I have so many agenda items that I care so passionately about that I can’t go on because I just wouldn’t be able to stop.  I wouldn’t.  It’s insane.

I was back at camp yesterday, which was awesome, so awesome in fact that I had to take another rest day today.  I’ve been chilling with Tank a bunch on my off days because he just found out that he’s going to have to wear his spectacles for life because he can’t see out of his one eye.  I mean, seriously, no more Tanky Potter jokes, he’s super sensi about it.  Apparently he’s never had full vision so he doesn’t know any different but that hasn’t seemed to console him during this new mental anguish.

Stay tuned for updates on the ‘Glass Eye Fund’ that I’m starting for Tank.  I mean, what better way to compliment the scary ‘nam stories he tells all the neighborhood kids than to have a glass eye that actually pops out?! So far he still wants to keep his eye but I’m pretty sure I can get him on board eventually.  I mean, what wouldn’t he give up to have a better party trick? His snaggle tooth just ain’t cutting it anymore.

I’m back to camp tomorrow, and hopefully also back on the grind with my training videos.  Gotta keep things moving around here.

Stay cool my babies,

Fall updates.

Dudes, how’s it hangin’?

It’s becoming a pretty crisp fall here in cville.  My first sign was that it feels a bit cooler in the mornings, my second was when the pool closed at camp.  The moms even took Herman to his winter home so Tank has moved his office to the couch.  He loves that thing.  I’m pretty sure he’s keeping his secret journal somewhere in the cracks but I haven’t had enough time alone in there to get my paws on it.

As the fall has been rolling in the mom’s have been super busy with their businesses and new projects, so I’ve been able to talk them into taking me to camp a couple more times a week.  It’s awesome.  I think the increased frequency has helped expedite my relationship development with some of the regulars.

Today my buddy Lexi and I got a little publicity on the camp Facebook page – a picture snapped right after he finished telling me a joke.  That guy is always cracking me up.

So, two cats walked into a bar…

Today when I was leaving camp I saw this dude Howie with his parents.  It’s so weird to see my camp friends outside of play group, but I think that might be a good angle to take if I’m going to secure solid votes for class president.  I sent tall mommy an email about FINALLY scheduling a play date with my friend Fiona.  I’ve been on her to schedule it for DAYS, and honestly, it’s like she doesn’t even read my emails.  She’s had a stomach virus for a few days, but I can’t let a little illness hold back my campaign.

I’m staying home with Tank tomorrow so I’ll be sure to post more about those ‘adventures.’  Tank has been a changed man these last few months so his plans are far less dangerous and far more BORING, but that’s a story for another time.

Stay cool my babies,

xx Bug
