YObama.

Dudes.  Sorry this post is slightly delayed, but I am just recovering from yesterday’s excitement.  PRESIDENT OBAMA came to visit yesterday.  He just lives up the road a couple of hours in DC, so he’s not far, but he doesn’t get a ton of time to come for a visit.  Even Sissy Spacek came out to to the Downtown Mall to surprise the President (she lives here too). A pretty rad Wednesday afternoon if you ask me.

Sweet candid pic of Sissy and B. snapped by P. Souza.

This was a very important visit for him since the election is fast approaching, but it was more important for me since I follow his campaign closely to gather tips and inspiration for my own political run.  Yes, that’s right, I’ve still got my eye on the great honor of being class president at camp, and since Obama and I are practically twins, I pay close attention to how he carries himself and his general approach to connecting.

I’ve been working on my presidential look

I need a flag background. For real.

I’m not saying that I think impersonating Obama is going to win me the vote at camp, but I’m committed to learning from his leadership skills and you can bet your sweet hiney that I’ll be studying his speeches before I hit the campaign trail.  Tank was supposed to be my campaign manager, but I think his conspiracy theories might hurt my chances.

I’m working on getting buttons for my online store, but in the meantime, don’t forget to vote for me in the Real House Pets of Cville competition.  It has been a tough race so far, but I’m due in at camp tomorrow and I’m hoping to generate a little word of mouth publicity.

Time for some Z’s.

Stay cool my babies,

SHARK WEEK!

Dudes.

I felt a little end of summer depression setting in as the Olympics came to a close, but little did I know the best was yet to come. It’s SHARK WEEK.

This is the best thing that’s happened to me in all of my lives. I’ve skipped camp all week so Tank and I could double up our morning training and have plenty of time to rest before our evening viewing marathons.

Shark week has inspired Tank to amp up our training regimen. This week we are focusing on two things: preparation and perseverance. It’s go time.

Tank says that there’s nothing more deadly than false confidence and poor preparation, so our training has been super tight. I almost feel bad for anyone that doesn’t have a Tank to coach them because I bet they don’t know the rules and they’ll probably get harsh penalties from the judges. Oh well, too bad! I’m feeling very prepared and take no prisoners.

check out my mug shot.

Earlier this week our Aunt Kristin and Uncle Pete came over and gave us some programming for training runs. Uncle Pete (I call him Petey Pete) is the track and cross country coach here at UVa and definitely knows a thing or two about running. I’m pretty fast already, but I’m excited to make this machine more efficient!

I’m headed back to camp tomorrow, but I’ll share more soon.

Until then, stay cool my babies.

Tank has crabs.

Dudes, TANK HAS CRABS.

Just kidding, he only has one. His name’s Herman and in the summertime we swim in him..

Dudes! This is Herman.

After Tank’s afternoon sunbath he likes to cool off with Herman and talk about life. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come home from camp and found them sharing war stories.  Tanks always talking about ‘nam.

I don’t usually spend that much time with Herman myself, but this week I needed a good soak.  I did back to back extended days at camp last week, plus two runs and a lift with Tank. I was spent.

My Uncle Hargraves came to dinner which was awesome, but I almost fell asleep at the table.  I soldiered through the meal  but when it came time to clean up I was down for the count.

too many dishes.

I hope HR doesn’t think I’m deconditioned because tailgating season is starting soon and I’ve got big plans to bring Bug Juice (my new signature cocktail).

I got up early on Friday and filled all the ice cube trays before camp so I had extras for an end of day ice bath.  Herman was super cool about it – I think he enjoyed the temp change.

I went to bed way early on Friday, and by Saturday morning I felt like a new Bug.   Tank decided to stay up late online (he loves the chatrooms) and was a little slow to start in the AM.

Tank has a case of the crabs.

I bug bombed the bed and got Tank rolling in no time.  We had one of the best training weekends to date – more to come tomorrow.

Stay cool my babies,

Pest Control.

Dudes,

Like I’ve said before, my brother Tank is a boss.  If you don’t believe me, just check out his grill.

You better believe that if you cross him (or me) he’ll cut you.  He will. He’s always flashing his canines around when we’re out on the streets.  We never know who’s going to be my competition for Rio, so we’ve got to keep our game faces on.

For being such a badass, it usually comes as a surprise to people that Tank has a softer side.  He and blonde mommy are two peas in a pod, I tell you, and both have sweet gooey centers underneath their hard candy shells.

they’re basically twins.

You’d never suspect this, but Tanky has big fears of flies.  He wont tell me exactly what it is about them, but I think the buzzing triggers anxiety from his previous life.  Tank used to be a captive and has bad nightmares about being taken back there.  It’s horrible.

Anyway, today we had a big episode at the house.  When Tank and I were coming in from our morning workout a fly got inside.  Tank was beside himself.  He ran upstairs and tall mommy had to put him under the covers and rub his back.

anyone have any xannies?

I knew it was time for me to step up.

I used my super human (dog) senses to locate the fly.  It was heading south east, towards the kitchen window.  I’ve run that route so many times that it was pure instinct.  I took off swiftly, but with stealth, and cornered the enemy.

Say my name. SAY my name, fly!

I tried to negotiate, but it was clear that he was not going to be rational.  I could hear Tank’s voice in the back of my head, ‘expect nothing, anticipate everything!’ It was go time.

game over, intruder.

Not even the irony of smushing a bug on the window could have stopped me from protecting my brother. It all just happened so fast.

Once I was sure that the life had left the fly’s body, I ran upstairs to calm Tank’s fears.  Never a dull moment in this house.

We’ve all returned back to normal, though Tank did milk it a little to get extra chicken in his dinner.  I’d complain but it worked out pretty well for me, and you know I need my protein right now.

Stay cool my babies,

Training Day #1

Dudes. This is one exhausted Bug reporting back to you after an action packed weekend.

The moms took Tank and I to the play park by our house and Tank ran me through a more dynamic training series.  I’m not gonna lie, it was killer, but I’m confident that his programming is preparing me both physically and mentally for the most demanding of challenges.

Check out our training facility.

Let me tell you, my paws are still screaming from the lateral jumps and wind sprints, but like Tank always tells me, ‘this ain’t disneyland.’

After the physical workout we moved into the mental exercises.  Tank says it’s important for me to push myself and test my mental sharpness after each practice session.  Yesterday our focus was on my reflex and reaction timing.

Tank, do we have insurance?

I drove the tractor while Tank dropped my old babies in my path and I had to dodge them, weaving through the terrain to avoid any casualties.

RIP Mr. Cow, you will be missed.

We took today off so Tank and I just goofed around the park scoping out the scene a little more so we could plan out this weeks training.

Tank thinks he’s 007.

Idaho? No, YOU da hoe.

We’ve got a big week coming up so the rest of the day we just hung out at the house and got some sun.  Sunning is one of Tanks favorite things.  I’ve got to admit, its growing on me.

Tank is WAY tanner than me.

Stay cool my babies.

See you in Rio.

Dudes.

She freakin’ did it.  Gabby Douglas won the gold.   I’m still all about my girl Jordyn, but Gabby was all anyone was talking about on the play yard today.

Tank says he wasn’t impressed but I know he was.  Today he skipped his 2pm nap to judge all of my couch vaults, and pushed back his 3pm nap to time my sprints.  We did  stair sprints  (20 seconds on/10 seconds off for four minutes) which were BRUTAL.  I dogged the last two a little bit so Tank made me do an extra one.  He’s an intense coach but I know he’ll help push me to the next level.

He’s got me on a practice schedule that bleeds into playtime, but I like it.  I’ve been practicing my splits while I play with my  babies – I’m pretty good at multi-tasking.

I can already feel a difference in my floor exercise. Tank thinks that if we train smart i can be at peak condition just in time for Rio.

By 4pm Tank was pretty spent from staying up most of the afternoon, and I was tired from my tabata sprints, so we rested our eyes until the moms woke us up for dinner.

I wolfed down my dinner in record time . Tank says I’m gonna need the carbs for tomorrow’s workout so I made sure no kibble went to waste.

I’ve got to rest up so I can be my best self during training tomorrow – I just know I’m going to be sore from today.

Lots more to share this weekend so I’ll be in touch.

Stay cool my babies,

xx Bug

Olympics: week 1.

Dudes.  So much going on in life to catch you up on, but the big topic for today: The freakin’ Olympics.  I’m so pumped up about week 1 that I almost can’t talk about it.

I’m consumed right now with gymnastics and swimming.  I think I have a future in one of those sports, maybe even both, so I’m just a ball of nerves during these finals.

Image

This was me watching the women’s gymnastics qualifying round. I still can’t even talk about Jordyn Wieber not making the individual all around.  I’m beside myself. That might be me up there some day if I keep focused on my training – I’m already feeling the pressure.

My brother Tank and I have been staying up so late watching the finals that I’m just a zombie in the morning.

Thank goodness I didn’t go to camp today, I wouldn’t have been able to keep up with my play group.

You might not know this, but I live in Charlottesville, Virginia, home of the University of Virginia.  I’m a total Wahoo.  Tall mommy was a rower here, so we wear a lot of orange and blue and support ALL Virginia athletes.  If your mommy went to Tech, I can’t play with you at camp.  I just can’t.

Today in London, one of our very own swimmers, Matt McLean won a GOLD medal.  This is huge. Charlottesville is pretty excited about it, I’m sure all my buddies will be talking about it at camp tomorrow.

(check out this funny graphic. I nearly snorted in my water bowl when I saw it.)

Last Olympics some of tall mommy’s friends won medals in women’s rowing, which is pretty cool, finals aren’t up yet so keep your paws crossed for the US teams.

Time for bed, so until next time, stay cool my babies.
