Week update: The Carolinas, a dog wedding & hating on civil rights.

Dudes,

Big week here.  Tank and I took our last road trip of the summer with the moms and visited our birth place: Charlotte, NC.    The trip was great but I’ve got to get back on track with my training.  Don’t even talk to me about my diet – it went right out the window on day 1 and I can barely see my back toes.

This trip we stayed with my two best friends:  Lex and Truman.

Lex & I catching up.

TRUMAN! the man.

On Tuesday morning Tank and I went to our first dog wedding.  Truman and his sister Jola got married – Lex officiated.

they don’t look too excited to me. prolly just nerves.

I guess in North Carolina you can marry your relatives, just as long as you’re not both boys or both girls.  I think it’s crazy, because if Tank wanted to marry Truman that would be like the best days of my life.

It was an emotional morning.

After the ceremony we all had busy days but joined back together later that night for a big celebratory reception.  Uncle Bill  got wild with the blender and shit started to get crazy.  The rest of the night was a blur.

It always smells like a good idea in the beginning.

The next morning was rough, but I pulled myself out of bed early because it was Lex’s first day of school.  He’s in 1st grade – I can’t believe it.

it’s a miracle my eyes were even open.

Lex came up to make sure Tall mommy and I were awake and fed me my breakfast.  I was still feeling a little queasy, but it did help.

All in all it was a great week.  I’ll be back soon because I’m going to overnight camp with my agility trainer, Alan.  He’s going to help me up my cardio base and perfect my form.  I can’t wait.

It was a long ride back to Virginia,  but we made it.

are we there yet?

We’re finally all settled into the new house and let me tell you, it’s going to be great to sleep in my own bed tonight.

Stay cool my babies,

Training Day #1

Dudes. This is one exhausted Bug reporting back to you after an action packed weekend.

The moms took Tank and I to the play park by our house and Tank ran me through a more dynamic training series.  I’m not gonna lie, it was killer, but I’m confident that his programming is preparing me both physically and mentally for the most demanding of challenges.

Check out our training facility.

Let me tell you, my paws are still screaming from the lateral jumps and wind sprints, but like Tank always tells me, ‘this ain’t disneyland.’

After the physical workout we moved into the mental exercises.  Tank says it’s important for me to push myself and test my mental sharpness after each practice session.  Yesterday our focus was on my reflex and reaction timing.

Tank, do we have insurance?

I drove the tractor while Tank dropped my old babies in my path and I had to dodge them, weaving through the terrain to avoid any casualties.

RIP Mr. Cow, you will be missed.

We took today off so Tank and I just goofed around the park scoping out the scene a little more so we could plan out this weeks training.

Tank thinks he’s 007.

Idaho? No, YOU da hoe.

We’ve got a big week coming up so the rest of the day we just hung out at the house and got some sun.  Sunning is one of Tanks favorite things.  I’ve got to admit, its growing on me.

Tank is WAY tanner than me.

Stay cool my babies.

See you in Rio.

Dudes.

She freakin’ did it.  Gabby Douglas won the gold.   I’m still all about my girl Jordyn, but Gabby was all anyone was talking about on the play yard today.

Tank says he wasn’t impressed but I know he was.  Today he skipped his 2pm nap to judge all of my couch vaults, and pushed back his 3pm nap to time my sprints.  We did  stair sprints  (20 seconds on/10 seconds off for four minutes) which were BRUTAL.  I dogged the last two a little bit so Tank made me do an extra one.  He’s an intense coach but I know he’ll help push me to the next level.

He’s got me on a practice schedule that bleeds into playtime, but I like it.  I’ve been practicing my splits while I play with my  babies – I’m pretty good at multi-tasking.

I can already feel a difference in my floor exercise. Tank thinks that if we train smart i can be at peak condition just in time for Rio.

By 4pm Tank was pretty spent from staying up most of the afternoon, and I was tired from my tabata sprints, so we rested our eyes until the moms woke us up for dinner.

I wolfed down my dinner in record time . Tank says I’m gonna need the carbs for tomorrow’s workout so I made sure no kibble went to waste.

I’ve got to rest up so I can be my best self during training tomorrow – I just know I’m going to be sore from today.

Lots more to share this weekend so I’ll be in touch.

Stay cool my babies,

Olympics: week 1.

Dudes.  So much going on in life to catch you up on, but the big topic for today: The freakin’ Olympics.  I’m so pumped up about week 1 that I almost can’t talk about it.

I’m consumed right now with gymnastics and swimming.  I think I have a future in one of those sports, maybe even both, so I’m just a ball of nerves during these finals.

This was me watching the women’s gymnastics qualifying round. I still can’t even talk about Jordyn Wieber not making the individual all around.  I’m beside myself. That might be me up there some day if I keep focused on my training – I’m already feeling the pressure.

My brother Tank and I have been staying up so late watching the finals that I’m just a zombie in the morning.

Thank goodness I didn’t go to camp today, I wouldn’t have been able to keep up with my play group.

You might not know this, but I live in Charlottesville, Virginia, home of the University of Virginia.  I’m a total Wahoo.  Tall mommy was a rower here, so we wear a lot of orange and blue and support ALL Virginia athletes.  If your mommy went to Tech, I can’t play with you at camp.  I just can’t.

Today in London, one of our very own swimmers, Matt McLean won a GOLD medal.  This is huge. Charlottesville is pretty excited about it, I’m sure all my buddies will be talking about it at camp tomorrow.

(check out this funny graphic. I nearly snorted in my water bowl when I saw it.)

Last Olympics some of tall mommy’s friends won medals in women’s rowing, which is pretty cool, finals aren’t up yet so keep your paws crossed for the US teams.

Time for bed, so until next time, stay cool my babies.

Life in a shoebox.

Dudes, I hope you all had great weekends.  Mine was crazy.

For starters, I went to camp on friday and came home to find that my whole world had been changed.  My spacious luxury penthouse was no were to be found, and in its place was this suffocating iron prison.

Now, don’t get me wrong, my new place has a few amenities, but they are few and far between.  I’ve had my eye on a sweet futon recently, so this downsize couldn’t have come at a worse time for me.  The moms pretended to understand my pain, but they have obviously learned nothing from Flowers for Algernon.

Needless to say, Friday night was a little rough at Casa Bug, but I’m nothing if not a trooper and I soldiered on.

The moms got me some new jammies to make up for putting me in this gerbil cage (an underwhelming gesture if you ask me) and they’re so badass.  They’ve got skulls and crossbones, my favorite, and came just in time for my next two weeks of Olympic viewing devotion.

I have lots of updates from watching the games with Tank, but I’ll have to circle back with you tomorrow – I’ve got to catch some z’s so I can be on my A-game at camp tomorrow.

Stay cool my babies,

xx Bug

Skulls & dogbones

Dudes, yo, how badass is this?  My Aunt Lauren is getting her CrossFit certification this weekend and sent me this picture of the CrossFit box she’s visiting.

I love skulls.

Yesterday the moms went to the pet store to get Tank and I some new treats and they got me this new bling for my collar.  Totally completes my gym outfit.

I spent the whole afternoon yesterday practicing my ring dips and double unders.  Blonde mommy told me I need to get bigger to lead the pack on the WODs.  I’m pretty aerodynamic, and I know I can top out on the workouts that have running – even though I hear the runners are the ones that like to cheat most on the strength parts.  I’m all set on wallballs and snatches, but the rower is what really chaps my ass.

Anyway, it was a good weekend but I am spent.  Tank and I didn’t even make it to the double digits last night.

Sometimes, you just need a few extra Z’s.

Stay cool my babies.

H20.

So, a couple days a week I go to camp. The other kids in my camp are pretty cool – I’m in small group because of my size, but I’m angling to roll with the bigs before the end of the year.

It’s been wicked hot out lately, so I’ve been taking dips in the pool and surveying the scene. I’m thinking about running for class president this year, so I’ve got to get a good feel for the play yard and who runs which toy rings.

Last weekend the moms took me to a big pool for swimming lessons, and my brother Tank showed me how to live the good life.

Tank’s a boss – just check out his teeth. He’s nice to me because I’m his little sister, but he’ll cut you if you try to mess with me.

Time for breakfast, so I’ve gotta roll.

Stay cool my babies.
